The Amazonian Warrior…

Sideshow Collectibles Wonder Woman Premium Format Figure is a great addition to any collection. Whether you’re a fan of great art or of the DC Comics franchise, this statue will be sure to please. Sculpted by Steven Schumacher, he once again captures the strong yet sensual female form in the essence of the amazonian warrior herself, Wonder Woman. Portraying a mix between the classic and modern, Wonder Woman stands a top a broken coloumn with shield and spear in hand. Clothed in her iconic red, white and blue, the warrior is wearing a slightly more modern version of her armor with accentuated armor plating along her chest and a golden belt shaped into the iconic Wonder Woman ‘W’ symbol.

Posed in a very typical raised leg pose, Wonder Woman’s gaze is focused straight ahead as her intricately sculpted hair flows in the wind. With a stern look on her face, the piece beautifully creates the scene of a victory after a long battle. with helmet and sword at her feet, the scene is left to your imagination. With the regular version of the piece, you will be able to have her holding a long spear with torn cloth hanging from it along with her iconic shield of justice. If you are able to get the exclusive, then you will have the option to change out the shield for a battle axe. Though a nice option, I found that having the battle axe in place of the shield didn’t really create much of a difference in terms of overall presentation or the context of the sculpt. It was nice however to have the ability to display the shield as an addition to the base whereby its fine paint application and detailing can be seen when look at the piece front on – a feature not possible when the shield if displayed.

…with austere beauty and fierce determination

Overall, I like this statue a lot. In my personal opinion, it represents the character extremely well. Though it is geared towards fans of the darker more grittier warrior Wonder Woman, the overall grasp of the classic and iconic outfit will please fans of the more light-hearted, original comic based Wonder Woman too. The only design flaws lie within the blue bottoms not being sculpted (which far away is fine, but up close looks slightly odd) and the shield not being able to be seen from a front-on perspective when displayed on the piece. Though it makes sense in terms of the overall sculpt, it may have benefited from being angled slightly different.

In terms of production, my particular piece turned out great. With straight and even eyes, great shading throughout the body and base and beautifully rich red’s and blue’s along the body and shield, I was greatly impressed. Though there was the occasional spot of poor paint application or a small smudge, these defects were mostly limited to the back of the legs and small enough to not be noticed when on display. It is worthwhile to note however that due to the extremely fragile nature of both Wonder Woman’s hair and spear, these parts may suffer damage during shipping. Though I have no doubt Sideshow will help you to find replacements if this is the case, it is just something to be aware of. That being said, it is these same parts that make the Wonder Woman premium format a truly exceptional rendition of the DC Comics hero and an outstanding piece to add to any collection.
