I am no hero…

XM Studios Magneto is a statue in its own league as far as I am concerned. Digitally sculpted by Suheryanto Hatmaja, the statues features the master of magnetism sitting in the palm of a destroyed sentinels hand. Adorned in a costume that mixes classic with modern, Magneto still sports his purple and red body suit and cape along with his iconic red and purple helmet – the only real elements changed in XM’s depiction is the loss of his purple underwear section with the addition of buckles on his boots and gloves, a beautifully sculpted body suit that encompasses a two-tone type of sculpted material and the loss of his purple underwear section. Overall though, even though I would’ve preferred a few more of his classic elements, this is clearly a strong and instantly recognizable representation of the character.

Brooding in his sentinel ‘throne’, Magneto is slouched into the palm of a Trask Industries sentinel, looking forward as he either reminiscences about his life and actions or powerfully commands – all atop the sign of Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters. A comic fans dream, the statue features many switch-out options that can completely create a different feel and context for the statue. Coming with two switch out hands and options to display Magneto with, or without his helmet, with his own helmet at his side, with a cerebro helmet at his side, or with a cerebro helmet ‘floating’ in his outstretched palm, there are many options for collectors to enjoy. Whether you are a fan of the all powerful villain or the slightly more complex mutant rights advocate, this piece has it all. Everything is extremely well detailed with a strong presence.

Merely a man who has seen and done and endured what can never be forgotten or forgiven

A stand out in any collection, XM Studios Magneto, in my opinion, is near perfection. With a beautiful sculpt, accurate character representation that can be diversified to your liking and excellent paint application, this statue is definitely deserving of the title of XM’s flagship piece. On a level of it’s own, everything from the beautiful ageing and scratching of Magneto’s gloves to the eye opening metallic blue found throughout the sentinel hand he sits atop, I can only flaw the extremely small production issues that my particular piece had (a small issue of paint on Magneto’s cape that didn’t dry properly and a small mark on Magneto’s unmasked face). If it’s any consolation however, XM has rectified both issues within a day of my contacting them – so all is well.

Other than that, the main issue collectors will find will be in regards to obtaining this piece. Having it in hand, I can foresee many not wanting to let this piece go for years to come. Even though Magneto is a character that I didn’t have a particularly strong nostalgia for, the statue has such a dominant presence that if I was forced to, this may very well be the last piece I let go – it’s that well made. Initially available for sale only in the South East Asia region, people like myself and many others had to utilize secondary retailers in order to get it, making it all the more difficult for the average collector to get their hands on. In all honesty though, this is a one of a kind design that I cannot imagine many ever surpassing. If  you’re a big Magneto fan, this is a no brainer, even considering the secondary market price, I can promise that you won’t be disappointed.
